Colonel David Lange, United States Air Force (Retired), grew up on Long Island, New York, and graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 1988. Over a 30-year military career, he served as a Master Navigator with more than 3,600 flight hours, flying combat, combat support, and humanitarian missions aboard the KC-135R and E-4B aircraft. A decorated combat veteran of Operations Desert Storm and Allied Force, he held numerous senior leadership positions and received the prestigious Institute of Navigation Superior Achievement Award for his lifetime contributions as a practicing navigator.
After retiring in 2018, David returned to Long Island and began a new chapter of reflection and creativity. As a writer, he has contributed dozens of short stories, essays, and poems to over 30 anthologies, many during the quiet uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic. His memoir, Quest: My Journey Through La Mancha, was published in 2020.
David writes to connect, to inspire, and to encourage readers to live with authenticity and gratitude. His work explores themes of memory, resilience, loss, and hope—always with the quiet conviction that stories have the power to heal and unite. When not writing, he volunteers as a museum docent, mentors future Air Force Academy candidates, and continues to serve his community through local veterans’ organizations.
My thoughts.
I've seen a lot and I've known many of the highs and lows that make life and the human experience so remarkable. I've tried to make a difference. I firmly believe that we all have the ability to make a difference by ensuring our actions promote kindness, hope, and respect for others.
In the end, we are all travelers on our own unique journeys. We all have a story to share. Our stories are all worth telling.
